Pilates is a method of stretching and strengthening exercises developed by Joseph Pilates that focuses on treating the body as an integrated whole and not in isolated parts. Contrology, as Joseph Pilates called it, is considered to be a body/mind/spirit approach to movement founded on six core principles: centering, concentration, control, precision, breath, and flow. Because of the nature of the exercise, pilates is appropriate for almost every person regardless of age or physical limitations. Pilates is an innovative method of body conditioning utilizing both specialized equipment and mat repertoire.

"(Pilates) develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit."
--Joseph Pilates

Private training is available individually, in duets, trios or small groups. These small group equipment classes include chairs, wall unit/towers and reformers. Over his lifetime Joseph Pilates invented over 20 contraptions-some of which look like medieval torture devices-constructed of wood and metal piping using a variable combination of pulleys, straps, bars, boxes and springs.

Open Studio is available for those pilates clients with advanced knowledge of the equipment. Open studio will be available any time the studio is open and equipment is available. Reformers, towers, chairs, arc barrels, rings and rollers will be available for your use. In order to participate in open studio you must be approved by a pilates trainer. A monthly fee will apply. An occasional session with an instructor is recommended to answer any questions or advance your practice.
